Our post-Corona bucket list, AKA 12 simple things we can’t wait to do as soon as it is safe

What's on your post-Corona bucket list? With a man in a yellow hazmat suit and mask

The past few weeks have been difficult. Miss M has had to quarantine because she had close contact to someone who tested positive. In order to improve her mood, we’ve started thinking – philosophizing if you will – about some of the things we want to do and writing our post-Corona bucket list.

It seems a misnomer to call it a post-Corona bucket list. If we are honest, Corona is not something that is just going to go away. We will be living with it for a long time. If we were waiting for Corona to be totally eradicated before doing everything on this bucket list, we could be waiting until we are all old and grey.

Calling it “The bucket list of things we want to do again as soon as it is safe enough and things have reopened so that we can do them again” is a bit of a mouthful. So we’ll stick to the shorter “post-Corona bucket list”, even if the name is a little misleading.

Our post-Corona bucket list

These are not in any particular order, though we hope things will be safe enough that we can do all of them soon!

Hug

This one I miss soooo much. I am a hugger, not a German hand-shaker. Not being able to hug friends or family members has been difficult and took a lot of ajustment. No doubt we will be a little slow to adjust as soon as we can hug, too.

Our Post-Corona bucket list: No. 1 - hugging

Go out to eat

This was one of the top things on Miss M’s list. Peter even went as far as to say where he wanted to eat. Having take away is all very well and good, but it is not the same. And while we’re at it: being able to meet spontaneously for a coffee or an ice cream, without having to preregister for a specific time slot in advance will be so nice!

Get a haircut

I haven’t had a haircut since November. Now is not the time to have new headshots taken….

Our hairdressers shut in November. While they have reopened, you can only go if you have a recent negative test. With kindergarten hours so erratic at the moment, the logistics have been a little difficult.

It will be so nice to be able to make an appointment, without needing a test. I don’t even mind wearing a mask.

Visit a water park

This is Miss M’s wish. She has even found one in a guide book that she wants to visit.

Post-Corona bucket list: No. 4 - Go to a water park

Spring clean

This one may seem a little strange to some of you.

I do not enjoy cleaning – I am not a housekeepers bootlace, as my Grandma would say. Still, I like to make the effort to give the house a deep clean in Spring.

At the moment, there does not seem to be much point. We are all stuck at home, working from home and even not allowed to go to kindergarten. Every time we clean, it needs redoing almost immediately because we are all using the space constantly. What point is a deep clean at the moment?

It’s also difficult to find the time to do a deep clean. I have work, blogging and normal house upkeep, and Miss M is not at kindergarten for the same amount of time due to current restrictions. When am I supposed to fit it in?

Have friends round for a garden party

We finished our new patio area last Summer (apart from the decorative touches). Still, we have had very little opportunity to share our new space with friends. It will be so nice to spend time with friends, enjoying the space and celebrating ‘freedom’, perhaps with a special afternoon tea.

Finish our hallway and entry

I have been struggling to get our hallway and entry finished. I have three jobs left to do, one of which should take only a few minutes.

The other two tasks will take a little longer and really need to be done on a nice day without much dust (I only have one area that I can paint and no way to stop the dust). Construction of the house next door has meant almost permanent noise and dust for nearly two years – yes, Corona made the whole process longer. Soon, the team should finish laying all the pavers, etc. (the new neighbours have already moved in). When the dust has cleared, I can hopefully get back to the last of our hallway and entry projects.

Go on a mother-daughter trip

Miss M still talks about our trip to Amsterdam and wants to go on another one. Now we are slowly trying to work out where we will be able to go during the summer holidays, our last hurrah before Miss M starts school. Our original plan was Paris, but we will have to see how things develop there.

Wherever we go, she wants some dinosaurs involved.

Go to a movie

I have a VIP package to see a movie at our local theatre. I can’t wait to use it. Like many others, I have binge-watched so many things this year, but I miss the big screen. And popcorn.

Go shopping

I can’t wait to be able to go shopping, with no strings attached, no delivery fees, no pre-booked time slots or negative corona tests… Like window shopping, but being able to go inside the stores, browsing the shelves to see the most recent products and colours. Probably with a coffee and ice cream break to keep my shopping companion happy.

Post-Corona bucket list: No. 10 - Shopping (without having to reserve a time slot)

Go to a flea market

I miss flea markets. We have a cellar that seems to be full of things that we want to sell and the flea market is the best place to sell them (and much easier than trying to sell them online). I just want to go look. I don’t know if my favourite local flea market is on this year or not. If not, I’m happy to do Paris or Amsterdam instead…

Travel

This is what I miss the most. Just being able to go away. I don’t think I’m alone.

We have a few plans, but we are really waiting to see what will be possible.

Peter wants to go to Munich to a Wirtshaus, a Biergarten and a castle. I’d like to go to Italy. Miss M wants to see dinosaurs. We all want to go back to Dubai though might wait until the October school holidays. I just want to go to a beach.

Post-Corona bucket list: No. 12 - Travel. Perhaps to Dubai (Dubai skyline)
